The Flu and You

Just want to make all of my parents aware that the flu and other ailments have been going around the school in droves the past few weeks. Yesterday there were almost 100 studnets absent due to sickness. Please keep a close eye on your child and please keep them home if they show any signs of sickness. It spreads like wildfires through the classroom. Thanks!

Update Aug 13, 09

I first want to say how excited I am to see all of your children! All of them have grown so much! This week has seemed to go off without a hitch, which delights me to no end. Our new student Gabrielle, has adjusted beautifully and seems to enjoy her new school and new peers. The new classroom is huge and allows "stations" for the kids to interact in. Although the classroom is still not finished being "put together" the kids seem to really enjoy it.
I want to list a few reminders and notices for you:
1. If you did not recieve a pink lunch form, PLEASE let me know ASAP!
2. If your child did not bring home a manilla envelope with Sutton info please let me know.
3. If you have the packet at home, please send back as soon as possible.
4. I need 3-ring binders! I am trying a new form of organization this year and need bookoos of 3-ring binders.

Please leave comments or questions as needed!

Welcome back!

Hello everyone! Is everyone as excited about the new year as I am? I can't wait to see all of my parents and especially all of my students! As of now(and of course this can change day to day), the classroom makeup will stay the same. I have been told (and am keeping my fingers crossed :)) that all of my students are returning and as of now no new students. I have also been told Mrs. Rogers and Mr. Nelson will also be back as well!
As most of you know our classroom has moved to the bottom floor. We are taking over the old chorus room. The room is much bigger and is disabled accessible! If you do not know where the classroom is you will enter the school and go down the middle stairway. Then take a right heading for the cafeteria. Take a right at the cafeteria and follow the hallway all the way down. The classroom will be at the end of the hall on the right hand side (sorry, not sure about room number:))
If you read this before school please bring your child to my classroom in the morning of the first day. You will receive a homeroom on your child's schedule and I am going to do my best this year about getting each child to there homeroom in the morning. If your child is a 7th grader the homerooms will be on the same floor, and
8th graders will be on the top floor. If your child is needs assistance getting to these classes we will assess the best possible route. If you wish your child to stay in my class for homeroom just let me know.
This year Sutton is also gaining a self-contained classroom for students with Autism. There room will be located right around the corner from mine. I hear the teacher is new (that's what I hear at least) and I look forward to mentoring her as a fellow low-incidence teacher. I am sure she will also be participating in the GAA this year so I am also excited to be a guide. Speaking of the GAA (Georgia Alternate Assessment) this summer I was asked to be a member of the two person team (haha) GAA committee. I will be working throughout the year with our Model Lead Teacher Kim Simmons. She has been a great leader and partner in this excursion. I will include a link on this blog to the Georgia Dept. of Ed's GAA page.
This year I will be using this blog as a form of communication for parents and other teachers. I encourage you to visit regularly. I also encourage everyone to visit my main website www.specialeducationteacher.me This blog addresses issues that are happening in special education, especially in Ga. I also provide assistance for other special educators. This year I will be taking a leap into accessing more technology in the classroom. Daniel Howard, Erica's father will be assisting me with this and I thank him a hundred times over. I do not want to speak for him but I am sure he can be assistance to any parent in the classroom who would like to investigate technology means for their child.
This year I am going to have a wish list posted on this blog. Looking at my receipts at the end of the year I might need some help ! :) But I want to thank every parent for being more than helpful last year.
Last but not least I want to thank each and every parent for making last year so amazing for me. I feel as if I have established strong relationships with all of you and that makes the job so much more rewarding and easy, haha. As all of you know I love each and everyone of your children and would do anything for them. Since Special Education started advocacy for students has been the driving force; I take pride in making advocacy my ultimate guide. I look forward to seeing everyone real soon!
Yours,
Ms. Jenny Buford
